Biosourced polypropylene (biobased PP) is a plastic produced from ethanol, obtained by fermenting plant matter such as sugarcane or corn. It has the same properties as conventional polypropylene, the only difference being that it offers a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional petroleum-derived PP. Properties & Characteristics Renewable properties Manufactured from renewable raw materials, biobased PP helps to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and to reduce our carbon footprint. Rigidity Stiffer than biobased PE, biobased PP is often used in applications requiring good resistance to deformation under load, such as molded parts for the automotive industry or rigid packaging. Heat-resistant Biobased PP resists high temperatures well, making it ideal for applications requiring sterilization or good thermal stability. Chemical resistance Biobased PP is resistant to many chemicals, making it durable in environments exposed to corrosive substances. Applications Food packaging Meat trays, yogurt pots, cans.
